Press Release

GlobalSign Sets Sights On Leaders With Managed SSL Service

Launches New Industry Leading Enterprise Certificate Management System

London, UK – 8 August, 2007 – GlobalSign Inc (www.globalsign.co.uk), one of the longest established Certification Authorities (CA) and specialists in SSL security, today announced that it has launched SSL Managed Service - marking a complete replacement to previous systems and setting a new industry leading standard of certificate management for enterprise customers.  SSL Managed Service provides the ability for customers to quickly, simply and conveniently purchase any of GlobalSign’s leading SSL Certificates through a management interface designed around the many specific enterprise security requirements.

The Software as a Service (SaaS) approach has been designed from the ground up by GlobalSign’s newly formed and recently announced management team, aligned with the company relaunch (see relaunch press release).  Following extensive customer research within enterprises and the channel, significant areas of development include the new SSL Managed Service.  Enterprise customers have made it clear what they need – a scalable, cost effective solution that can be used by even the most distributed of organisations, and that provide certificates that conform to stringent security requirements and provide the highest level of trust.  In addition to this, these certificates must be easily managed.

With its SSL Managed Service, GlobalSign provides the industry’s easiest and most cost-effective way to manage multiple SSL Certificates.  The service works on the principle of pre-vetting, where an enterprise may have an unlimited number of domains pre-vetted and added to its SSL Managed Service account.  Administrators and authorised service users may then log into the web based application, or XML based API, and request new Certificates and reissue, renew or revoke existing Certificates and manage all aspects of reporting, auditing and billing.  Additionally, service users can now also be allocated different levels of accessibility according to their job role (reporting, billing, application of certificates etc).

The service ensures that at any time:

  • New certificates can be quickly ordered
  • Existing certificates can be easily renewed, reissued or revoked
  • The Administrator can add additional service users with a granular level of permissions representative of the user’s function – Finance, IT Manager, etc
  • An exact snapshot of live certificates, and all invoices / receipts associated with spent funds can be viewed / printed / downloaded

“With online security and the fight against fraud and phishing placed high in an enterprise’s risk management strategy, the applications and need for SSL are growing at an unprecedented rate,” said Johan Sys, CEO GlobalSign Inc.  “GlobalSign’s new systems are set to take the SSL market by storm with unrivalled ease-of use, reliability, functionality and of course cost effectiveness.  There really is no easier way to effectively manage SSL across even the largest most distributed enterprise.”

Key features of the SSL Certificate itself include the option of utilising Domain Validation, Organisation Validation or Extended Validation (DV, OV and EV), the free inclusion of Server Gated Cryptography (SGC) in every certificate (to “step up” weak 40 bit browser to server connections to strong 128 bit), extensive warranties and recognition by all popular browsers, applications and mobile devices.  GlobalSign is also pioneering an “options” based approach which allows customers to create a tailor-made SSL Certificate.  Options such as wildcard abilities (to allow multiple sub domains to be secured by a single certificate), inclusion of public and private IP addresses and servernames within the certificate (allowing use of SSL on Intranets and databases) and customizable start and end dates help customers create SSL Certificates that meet their specific requirements.

The new services are available immediately and further information can be found on GlobalSign’s rebranded website at www.globalsign.co.uk
